Research

My research focuses on the area of groundwater remediation and specifically on computer modeling of biologically mediated remediation of chlorinated compounds from groundwater systems. Also known as bioremediation, this technology represents an innovative, still developing treatment option that provides an enormous potential for sustainable and effective treatment of subsurface systems, contaminated by hazardous chemical substances of organic nature. Being able to mathematically describe the involved processes provides with the invaluable advantage of predicting the system's behaviour and thereby providing strategies for the eventual control and restoration of the affected groundwater systems.
