Directions
Air
-
Located in the northwest corner of the metropolitan
Toronto, Lester B.
Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is served by
more than 35 international carriers and is the main Toronto airport handling
commercial and business flights. The airport is 16 miles (25 km) west of central Toronto.
Travelers Aid has desks in all terminals in the arrivals area.
They are very helpful with maps, brochures, and general travel
information. Allow 40-60 minutes to/from the heart of
downtown, depending on time of the day. From the airport to the city, the
most convenient way to get downtown is use the Airport Buses or Airport
Taxies working out of the airport.
A number of maps are available to help you find your way:
The Toronto Island Airport (YTZ)
is a much smaller airport, serving limited airlines.
Porter Airlines currently have flights to/from YTZ, serving a limited number of destinations, including Chicago Midway (MDW),
Halifax (YHZ), Montreal (YUL), New-York-Newark (EWR), Ottawa (YOW), Quebec City (YQB), and Thunderbay (YQT). YTZ is conveniently located
in the city centre -- a short ferry ride will get you to Toronto harbour, where Union Station (subway and rail) is near by.
Taxi
-
At Pearson International Airport (YYZ), taxi stands are located at the main entrance of every terminal. The fare to the downtown area
is approximately $50-60 CAD. You may negotiate a flat fee
with the driver ahead of the time, instead of paying by the meter.
An additional 15% tip is expected by the driver.
Only taxies
with TIA on their license plates are authorized to pick up passengers from
Pearson International Airport. The trip can take from 40 minutes to over an
hour in traffic.
Airport Express Bus
-
Provides transportation from the airport (YYZ) to Downtown area hotels at twenty minute
intervals during peak periods. One way cash fare is $23.95 CAD and
roundtrip is $39.95. To book tickets or obtain more information, click here.
The bus stops
at a number of hotels in the downtown core. At the Royal York Hotel, their
connector service will take you directly to the University.
You must book
this connector service in advance and is included in your cash fare.
Bookings can be made upon arrival at the Royal York or in advance.
Information call (905) 564-6333 or (905) 564-3232.
Bus and Subway
-
You may also take the
T.T.C.(the name for our transit system) from the Airport.
It costs $3.00 only, but it will take
considerably longer time (1.5 to 2 hours, depending on where you want
to go), and you may need to make several transfers. If you have heavy
luggage, it is not recommended. However, if you travel light (say,
with a couple of small suitcases on wheels), then this can be a cost
effective alternative.
To go from the airport to the downtown campus, take Bus 192 Airport Rocket (has a stop at
every terminal), get off at Kipling Subway Station, and take the subway to St. George Station.
At St. George Station, you can either walk to campus (about 12-minute walk to the Galbraith Building), or take the Yellow subway line south and get off at Queen's Park station. Then see above
for directions to the Galbraith building. It's about 5-minute walk.
